Hacking For A PS3
If you haven’t gotten your hands on the rare PS3 this year, there is one last hope of getting it. You have to root a server and prove that you did it. You’ll need to replace the image of a baby holding a PS3 with one currently residing in root’s directory. You’ll also need to make a text file with your address in root’s home directory. A port scan turns up every port open, so it’s definitely going to be a challenge. The web server being used is publicfile httpd, and it’s running on a Linux platform. The distribution of Linux is Fedora Core. At the bottom of the page there is some strange text:
<!– 9280 8736 1010 2874 1099 1546 9890 5436 1287 0009 –>
<!– 6588 6768 2020 5790 9622 1257 9087 5445 8987 1009 –>
<!– 1120 0098 3030 2632 8279 6843 4554 3266 3789 2018 –>
<!– 3DA4 430E 4040 53E0 35C8 5A52 2415 48BD 4911 7424 –>
<!– DDDH –>
No idea what that text actually is. It doesn’t appear to be hex, because the ASCII form of that is a bunch of weird symbols.
This idea is cool because the server this website is running on is actually a PS3. It really goes to show how powerful the system actually is. So fire up nmap and let the games begin!
