Firefox Extension: BugMeNot
December 14th, 2006 - By: Alex Bailey
With more and more websites asking you to register to see their content, browsing the web can be a pain. Some websites even block websites such as dodgeit, when you try to register. For those of you not familiar with dodgeit and similar services, it basically provides you with a temporary email account. Everyone can view each other's emails, because they are for registering for websites where you need a quick login. With bugmenot, a service that gives out logins to websites where registration is required, dodgeit is becoming less needed. Passwords for major news papers like the NY Times are among the most popular uses. Youtube which blocks content deemed inappropriate by users also requires registration, thus popular on bugmenot.
The bugmenot Firefox extension is an essential for those people too lazy to register for random websites. In a nutshell, it adds a section to the right click context menu in Firefox. It will display the current site you on, and a list of available logins for that site. If the login fails it gives you the option of cycling to the next user. If the login fails, along with cycling to the next one it also reports the user as broken. I've tested the plugin on Firefox 2.0, and it works perfectly. Most of the comments on their website indicate that the plugin is working on previous Firefox versions as well.
