New Changes At Digg
Today after some downtime Digg.com rolled out some new features. Included in the “features” is essentially three different front pages. There is one for news, videos, and podcasts. The reason for separating videos from news, was because videos started to get really popular. This might be an attempt to deliver more page views per month to digg’s homepage, to increase their dwindling ad revenue. The videos section now has a play button on each video, which when clicked will pop up the embedded video in Digg’s website. This feature as of now only works on Youtube, Google Video, and MetaCafe. The podcast section is just all the podcasts from Revision3’s website so far, but you can add new ones via an RSS feed.
The layout has been enhanced for wide screen users. This meaning the sections that were previously on the side are now on the top of the screen. The content stretches across the whole screen, and when your browser is resized the layout changes appropriately. The navigation itself is as easy as it was before, but if you’re familiar with the site it will take some getting used to.
When you click stories in the last 24 hours, it actually displays the stories within the last 24 hours. This comes at a price - stories on the homepage no longer say how long ago the story was submitted, but how long ago it was made popular. Personally I would prefer both.
If you want more information on the changes you can visit Digg’s blog. On there is a movie discussing the changes, and what exactly was done.
