while its mutant offspring will likely disappear off the evolutionary tree, something was right about the original. a story garnered MASSIVE coverage and MONETIZED it

(sort of like Christianity, except no army of evangelists brought it forward through 2000 years, Tew is more like John the Baptist who sort of fizzled out, while the other team’s god did well)

anyway, seriously though, the results were REAL. yes yes, the current thing borrows heavily on the success of the past, and may have to repay it all, but the original idea had legs, and Tew landed on it.

anyhow, note any decent company starts small and through hard work and determination takes off, not through expecting people to support you jsut becuae you’re you (again, religion does, but that’s religion)

stop talking like he set up shop and people came to check out his goods and purchased them on their merits! he got this money BEFORE he did anything. you cannot compare getting an advance with a sale. if a writer gets an advance for a book (perfect analogy) it’s because the publishers saw the previous work done and are saying ’same again please!’. this is also the basis for bonuses in the City (interesting fact for you all).

HOWEVER.

the book is not materialising. the job has not been done. the mini HAS been bought, and a table football table if i am not mistaken and some rent paid on a flat in London, but apart from this purple monstrosity which was done on the utter utter CHEAP, you can’t say ‘he’s worked for one month and earned 3000 a day’.

Remember that Simpsons episode where Homer designed the ultimate car for his brother who trusted him purely because he felt guilty? look it up. people may not have given him a chance for family reasons, but in both cases they threw the guy a bone. the results are approximately similar.

because it is too much hassle to change as all their content is locked into a windows format. you DO think about these things a LITTLE before saying them, right? ;) and if it’s a hassle for individuals it is for corporations who face massive bills for changing platforms and hiring new sstaff, firing old ones… LBA, perhaps you shoudl do an MBA. Gates is no dummy. and MS Software is not THAT bad, and does what it’s supposed to do generally speaking, with the odd glitch. the upsides of changing (crashes slightly less than a mac) are smaller than the downsides (learn whole new operating system, not be able to use MS Word, buy new PC, forget about all old content… etc)

really, no kidding, any entrepreneur has to justify why their product or service is worth it, and pixelotto is abhorrible mutation, it is so million dollar home page after falling into a vat of toxic waste to emerge, scarred, horrible, missing limbs and half a brain and hell bent on revenge…. sort of like caligula after overloading on general corruption and deciding that instead of fighting to save the empire he’ll get the slaves to entertain him as they chop at each other in the arena… gaaahh… the hubris of it all as another blogger commented….

value is something that matters to you. The value he sold was ‘I will get loads of people to look at your website’. now maybe some people are clicking on your website but not to look at it. the MDHP was a success because it was such a patchworkof random sites some of which were cute because they were so small and random. And we liked the advertisers for being part of the big story (poor kid pays college fees) so we visited their sites.

none of this applies any more. people click to make the one of ten clicks required to win money and don’t bother reading sites in depth. most of which I’d be ashamed to look at amyway (get girls, win loads, ra ra ra).

so people get spammed by clickers, not checked out. there’s BOUND to be one or two sites that buck this trend, but I will guess that the vast majority follow this trend.

and if so many people are laughing all the way to the bank, WHY HAVE WE NOT HEARD OF THEM!!!!!!!?????? no customer reviuews like in MDHP, no blog, no list no nothing, in short a lzay haphazard site with a fraction of the content of teh original, and the laugh is he hired people to make it as opposed to the shoestring of the original!!! in the original we followed his wacky adventures to Google headquarters etc etc now there is nothing for us to look at and later spend time on his crappy ugly site.

Before Pixelotto, Alex Tew was in the position of being headhunted by some big companies. He could have been set with a great job and some REAL “million dollar” prospects. He also had interest in his “new ideas” and had a great platform from which to launch something original and exciting, if he could have produced the goods.

In short, from his MDHP platform he COULD have gone on to some great things, and made TEN TIMES what he made from Pixelotto.

Instead he has ruined his reputation, and lost the interest of the public. So is he really the business genius the press would have had us believe?

So how do you define value? Is it something that should be applicable ‘across-the-board’? Or is it something that applies to those who find value to it? You think a pantyliner would be of value to you as it is to a female? Don’t think so.

Products such as those of Alex’s are of value only to those who have something to benefit of it, whether that be monetary or not. It’s really common sense, why would you buy something that has no value to you? And if it doesn’t have value to you, why even exert the time to downplay the effort and call it “failure”? And hey, if you did buy pixel space from him but didn’t benefit from it, unless all of those who bought had the same experience as you, that doesn’t mean it’s a complete failure, isn’t it? “Million dollar home page” had a ring to it, and anyone who watched telly would go look it up the next day. What TV newscaster worth their salt would promote this obviously lazy, greedy, unimaginative follow up? there’s no value for the viewer. the initial story made the viewer feel good or inspired hence a newscaster will broadcast it. now, the newscaster would simply be Tew’s thankless pimp. Note : he thought he could do it all without trying, hiring his mum and his opportunistic brother, rather than people who might challenge him and his ideas. Lesson for Mr Tew : find people who will challenge you and are smarter than you, i.e. most people.

Anyhow, I think the kind of people who follow blogs do so for intellectual excitement, none of which pixelotto delivers. I’m sick of the word pixel, it communicates zero value and I think tew is broken record every time he uses it. maybe he’s too busy coming with the e-book on his incredible creative skills, you know, the kind that he demonstrates by driving a pansy mini and being a “college drop out” with a “low attention span” because staying in college might force him to not be the smartest in the room and have to deal with people who think different to him.

Such hubris.

In short, 143k or not, he doesn’t deserve it as he hasn’t delivered on the basic premise of the site. and he got it on teh back of something that is dead and buried. Someone claimed critics should get a book on “Marketing 101″. Perhaps the first lesson in there is “have something that delivers value”. REMEMBER : he sold people the fame of something which is finished, and gullible people bought it.

Isn’t too great? Big words for someone who probably couldn’t even achieve such a feat in the same amount of time as he has. If you think you know better, why not show your own stuff?

Get a book on Marketing 101. Geez!
