iPhone Confirmed - Price = $600
January 9th, 2007 - By: Alex BaileyThe long awaited iPhone has finally been officially announced. Yes it's called the iPhone. Here are the basic stats on this awesome new toy.
11.6 mm thin
Appears to have 8 gigs of memory as seen in the images
Can tell if it's being held vertically or horizontally. Will adjust screen accordingly.
Touch screen
Runs OS X - Supports widgets
2 Megapixel Camera
Bluetooth and Wifi
GSM Radio with EDGE
MULTI touch screen
$600 - for the 8 gig
$500 - for the 4 gig
Both of those prices are with a 2 year contract.
Shipes in June
The only downside I can see is it's currently available under Cingular's service. Hopefully they sell an unlocked version as well.
I'd be worried about battery life on such a neat toy like this. I expect a cell phone to last 15 hours at the absolute minimum. Over 24 hour battery would be a fairly nice feature.

Yes but there are so many downsides, at the moment I don’t see it being worth the price.
- 8 Gigs is very small
- 5 Hours battery time for the phone is terrible
- Screen looks like it might be easy to scratch
- 2 Year contract with Cingular
- Cingular exclusive
- …Cingular period

i want one, but probably everybody else is gonna get one too so pssht.,.. i don’t wanna blend in… looks spiffy though
5 hours is pathetic… i mean really, you go to a party and u have to charge ur phone b/c the battery will die…. that’s just fucked up 5 hours, danmn, plain batteries run better than that, i say make it thicher and more bat power. nobody will care if the thing is like 1mm thicker, yet they will care if it rucs for like 12 hours rather than 5. 12 still not being very good, but it’s progress…. and really… 8gb… o_O
good luck apple

I have read all of your comments and there are few things that should be considered here:
1)If you look at the apple website the 5 hrs or battery life it is referring to is talk, video, web time. Standy time (waiting for a call, but still on) would be much longer. Based on industry averages for phones that have a 5 hr talk time, probably about 200 hrs of standby time.
2)The highest amount of memory you will find on a music/ pda phone in the market today is 2gb micro sd (sold separately $80) or 4gb sd (sold separately $100). Not a single mondel comes with any large amount of space built into the phone. iphone wins with 8gb.
3)Most of these phones that will GENERALY do what the iphone will do are ranging in price from $200 to $400. As far as I see it your paying a few bucks more for the best phone in the market when it arrives.
4)The iphone will have more gadgets and gizmos that any phone in the world when it arrives. Take a look on the apple website.
5)Most of the people in the world use Microsoft. I do as well. I can say that i DONT like it over the mac product one bit. Now that intel processors are avialable on the mac product you can run parralells and use both OS on the macbook. The point is that windows mobile is going to be so blown out of the water on this device it will be funny. Thier current BlackJack and other PDA’s will look like Atari compared to it.
6)Mac will have a screen protector and dozens of cases for it. Have you been to an apple store recently? The ipod has every case or scratch protection method you can imagine.
The bottom line. Mac makes the best mP3 player today (sales indicate), their computers look better and outperform, cell phones should be nice to look at and packed full of features. This one does it, and $600 is a bargain.

Heh don’t get me wrong, I think it’s awesome. However I don’t think it’s very practical for the average consumer.

Yea they are already selling screen protectors on eBay lol. Figured that out when doing research for this post.

Personally I think this be really cool, I dont know about the $600 dollar price tag, but then again I could just get the 4G one. Thats not alot of space for internet and stuff but hopefully I’ll manage. Most of you are right when you say that the battery life isnt great but I mean come on have you saw the screen of this little gadjet. It’s by far the best phone, and its not on the market yet. Ohh ya and as for you people complaining about the 4G and 8G memory, give me a break, its a fucking phone not a PDA or a video ipod. Just deal with it. I have held one of these things in my own hands and I can say it IS the most amazing device out there.

Well I will be real with you. $600 is nice and there isn’t a phone with that much memory yet. BUT can it use Yahoo/MSN messenger? I haven’t seen that yet… can the keyboard go “sideways” like most “ipaq” PDA’s do?
Those are just questions… truth be told Apple loves to sucker people but no ones likes to admit it. This phone will come out and BOOM a new one and this one is obsolete. APPLE is the best out there in my eyes but you ALL know (yes talking to the apple people) that APPLE makes non upgradeable hardware. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN… don’t give me some break down… I give this 5 months…
How long the Motorola Razr been out???? that is my point on time…
It looks tight… I hope it doesn’t crash because software means…. the chance of crashing…
I dont see this being better than the XDA’s and those cats run the dreaded windows (No they don’t have dreads)

I think it is too PRICY. I read somewhere that the total production on an iphone is 280$ and they are asking 600$. And if 8GB is this much think how much will be 30GB.
I dont know my instincts are that iphone will end up like PS3 (No one buying it or No more in stocks) if they dont reduce the price of the product. Because right now everyone has an ipod and almost everyone has a cell. Why would public pay an anormous price for the iphone unless they have a lot of money lying around.
But if u still are in favour with the iphone, give it around Nov/ Christmas ‘08 the price will come down. Good Luck.

how can u call it a phone if it only has 5 hours battery life i have had phone calls go longer then that and who would be dumb enough to buy something like that with a 2 year contract all it is, is a slim PDA looks alright but no thought into the functions on it like 8gig whats the point when the battery can’t even last long enough to view or listen to that amount of data which if u look at it 8 gig is small considering what they are saying it can do im with 1 of the other guys make it a bit bigger so ya can get at least half a days use out of it at the moment its made 4 sum1 that lives a indoors life cause for the normal person its just a waste of space in ya pocket cheers andy

Yeah but how many phones can you name with 8 gigs of space and all the features that this phone contains in a small amount of space(expecially mac osX on it)

The iPhone ease of usage is a big plus. Graphically awe inspiring. Makes other phones graphics look like they just discovered 2D. 8g is quite a lot of space for any ordinary phone user. Grippability is a minus though. You want to hold it to your ear where there is no earpiece, it kind of slips.
I would still save for one at the end of this year. It would be my first contact with a MAC device. So biggies to Apple

Well in reply to db….Macs SUCK, they really do, Apple is cool and all but they should stick to there music IMO. There phone is neat but not very practical for the average buyer looking for a phone. Reason are as follow.
1. Wanna listen to music? Use the APPLE Ipod
2. Wanna go on the internet? Use a Mac computer.
3. Wanna use a phone? Go buy a nice phone with out the price gouge.
I see the only people getting this phone is the chinese, all they care about is there electronics, and they will probaly get it fisrt.

ok, ok.. the phone is a little pricey, but its cool…. you can use a computer, but its better that you can be on the internet away from home… [quote comment="11670"]Well in reply to db….Macs SUCK, they really do, Apple is cool and all but they should stick to there music IMO. this is a pretty good phone. the first time i read about it i went nuts. even though its so good the price is way too much. there is a phone called the Nokia N95, and the samsung f700 that practicaly do the same thing and have better features like a 5 megapixel camera with flash. i might get this phone . but i will have to wait atleast a year after it is out.lol i need the price drop

Are you retarded? This phone is not worth the $600 dollars, all of you saying this is a bargain are the people that go around claiming they are rich online. You can buy a nice Treo or Blackberry for $400 and have a lot of better features minus the 8GB storage. As far as the internet, yes mobile internet is cool, but paying $600 for the phone and $20 per month for the internet usage is unfathomable for 70% of the United States. If they are targeting celebrities it should do fine, nobody else could afford it.

Too expensive, and I wanted it to be available to all mobile service providers, not Cingular. Meh, excited me, but well, too good to be true.

HOLY CRAP!!
600$??!?
20$/month for internet!?
It’s a *^%$ nice toy, but unless a price drop occurs, this device is gonna hit the rocks.
Personally I could use a BIG price drop.
(250$-350$)

I would never buy a phone made by Apple! Firstly what the heck does apple know about cell phones? Battery life is terrible and it’s the size of a VCR.
Get a Nokia E61i it’s a reliable phone has Wifi plays mp3 and has upgradeable memory and it’s a NOKIA! you can get one for 500$ NO CONTRACT.

Ummm people. I have a few things that i would like to bring up regarding this phone!
First of all, it’s a iPHONE! so let’s see what’s HOT in phone these days. Yes, that’s camera. To take pictures and create videos. This piece of sexy crap only has a 2 mp camera! My nokia n73music edition has a better camera than this. 3.2mp!
Secondly, 600$ for a phone/music player. To be honest, it’s not that bad for a person who has to BUY a new phone and BUY a new mp3 player. But some dude was right at the top that everyone has a phone and everyone has a killer mp3 player. So point is, Who would buy this really? celebs?
Thirdly, yeah the space and all is pretty sweet. But letme tell you this, nokia N series has a phone (n92 i guess) that supports 8gb and 4gb cards with their OS..
And it’s pretty cheap aswell. So basically, this thing looks sweet, but won’t last long in the market!
Bezerk!

See I told you. See post number 14. Now as the price of the PS3 has come down. There will be relatively more people buying it. Same as iphone too because 600$ for the phone first and then a monthly subscription for a minimum of 60$ doesn’t just cut it for me.
