A Windows Installer For Ubuntu

A Windows Installer For Ubuntu

A few years ago a Linux installation used to be quite a challenge. Manually partitioning the slackware install with the text-only installer has probably discouraged quite a few people. As GUI installers became more popular in distributions such as SuSe, Linux started to get a little bit more popular. However the Ubuntu developers are finally testing the inevitable; a Windows installer for Ubuntu.

The advantages are listed on Ubuntu’s Forums as:

* very simple to use
* provide a no-risk installation
* no repartitioning the hard disk
* no changing the windows boot loader
* Easy uninstallation.
* Low risk
* Doesn’t use a virtual machine
* Doesn’t significantly reduce performance of the resulting installation
* Resulting installation supports everything a normal install does.
* Fast install

You will not need a CD for this installation, nor will you have to mount an ISO. The installer appears to let you install Kubuntu, Ubuntu, and Xubuntu.

This is definitely a huge step forward to a painless Linux installation. I can’t wait till this is in at least a beta stage. Currently this is just a prototype, and they’re proving the concept is possible.
