Engadget Makes Up False Rumor, Doesn’t Correct The Post

A few days ago Engagdet made a post about getting 3 months of T-Mobile Wifi internet if you’re using Windows XP, Linux or Vista. The T-mobile offer is strictly for Vista users only, and requires validation. After first seeing this, it seemed too good to be true. After looking in to the issue for around 5 minutes, I discovered this on their F.A.Q page:

13. Why does your system prompt me to accept ActiveX controls?

ActiveX controls are required to validate your ownership of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.

Clear as day in the F.A.Q it says you’ll be required to use IE7, and Vista. They not only verify it’s Vista, but they verify it’s a genuine copy!

Doing a Google search for the term “free T-Mobile wi-fi for three months” turns up 534,000 results. I opened up each link, and read the story they wrote. Nine out of ten of the websites I read included Engadget’s falsified information. However, one of the links was a Digg article pointing to Engadget.

To this day they’ve not yet updated the blog post to show its inaccuracy, even after contact. As the old saying goes:

1.) Pull falsified information out of your ass.
2.) Post it on popular blog.
3.) ???
4.) Profit!
