Highlight links to open with Multi Link

Posted by Alex Bailey On February - 17 - 2010

Mass visiting multiple links on a certain web page is something I do often. When browsing websites like Reddit I often middle click the links ahead of time so that they open in a new tab which can be reviewed later. With this extension you can open, download, or even copy the URLs to the clipboard. To use this simple extension, simply highlight every URL you want to open on the page. Next Multi Links will execute the action you have chosen in the settings area. I just checked open in new tab,... (more...)

Who’s Not Using OpenDNS Yet?

Posted by Alex Bailey On February - 13 - 2008

OpenDNS was founded in 2006 and ever since then I’ve been addicted to it. Each time I’m diagnosing network issues I manually add the magic numbers for DNS. The simple four octave numbers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220; forever embedded in to my memory. So why do I use it you ask it? For a variety of reasons. Mainly for speed, but there are others… Faster internet speed I use Comcast as my ISP. While they do have decent bandwidth, their DNS queries are slow and unreliable.... (more...)

Erase Your Search History

Posted by Alex Bailey On February - 13 - 2008

In a world where the government can at any time subpoena search engine data it’s growing more important for companies to think of new ways to protect their users. Ask.com, which has a history of innovation has a neat function called AskEraser. Ask has always been keeping us excited with features such as their thumbnail picture view and unique search... (more...)

Free Online PDF Viewer

Posted by Alex Bailey On February - 13 - 2008

It’s the only PDF file you’ll ever need to open, so why download Adobe’s PDF viewer? That’s the motto the folks at samurajdata had when creating their online PDF reader. It’s as simple as it gets. Either enter in the web address of the PDF, or upload it to their servers from your computer. Their software will then present your document in a viewable form in your web browser. There are only a few options you have to manipulate the PDF, and those include zoom, tilt,... (more...)

Encryption: Change The Way Gaim/Pidgin Store Passwords

Posted by Alex Bailey On May - 24 - 2007

For as long as Gaim has been in existence, the passwords you store are in plain text. All can be found in in ~/.gaim/accounts.xml. If you’re on Windows, it might be in your user’s local settings. This can pose as a security risk if you’ve accidentally installed malware, or even have someone snooping around. Gaim’s (now pidgin) makers are fully aware of the problem, but don’t see it as a huge risk. In fact in their F.A.Q they show a clear bias towards Linux, and... (more...)

WordPress Plugin To Reduce 70% Of Spam

Posted by Alex Bailey On May - 9 - 2007

If you’ve ever owned a WordPress blog, you know that the amount of spam comments is ridiculous. I get a couple thousand spam comments per week, and checking through Akismet to find false positives would be nearly impossible. Shifting through comments, there is a clear pattern of spam. A lot of them use bbcode for forums (currently not supported by wordpress). Others simply put a hundred blogspot links in the comment area. This plugin simply blocks obvious spam comments using the following... (more...)
