Free Linux Disks Project Crashing Under Pressure
A while ago I ordered a Gentoo install disk via freelinuxdisk.org. Since then it has been long forgotten about. Today I got an email saying
The Free Linux Disk project has been under tremendous pressure lately. We
underestimated the demand for free Linux disks. We have over 20,000
requests to fill. The project is funded and supported by volunteers and
we are trying very hard to keep up with demand.
Ouch, no Linux disk for me. Some of the things they suggest doing are cancelling the order, or donating them. Seems like a complete contradiction of the project to me. Oh well it was a good try, I cancelled my order. If anyone is interested in keeping the project alive you can donate to their cause. I think people would be more willing to burn and ship two Linux cds to someone in their country. This would be a quite efficient way of getting all the CDs out to the people. However this leaves the risk of spyware and other things built in to the CDs. Anything seems better than the expensive machine they would like to buy just to burn and stamp CDs.
