Google Releases Free 411 Service
Google has put a service in their labs section called Goog-411, and it's completely amazing. Upon dialing the easy to remember number (1-800-GOOG-411), you're greeted with an automated voice. He asks your city and state, and then asks what you're looking for. The results said in chunks of 8, and you can say which number you want at any time. The automated voice will tell you the details including phone number and address over the phone, or text message you. If you've found the correct place, it automatically transfers you to their phone number. The accuracy is honestly dead on. I called it, and gave them my city and town, and had my results in under a minute. I did three different tests - pizza, plumbing, and Chinese food. The results were always in the order of closest to furthest.
The menu is very easy to use, and you can start over or go back at anytime. The pronunciation of the machine doesn't even sound like the average automated voice, it sounds very realistic. Overall this service completely blows 411 out of the water. Once word spreads about this, nobody will be using the standard and expensive 411. The only and I mean only advantage 411 has over Google's free version is you get to talk to a real person. However, the machine was clear concise and didn't make any errors.
